At the Hospital

I am currently writing this from the hospital where I had my surgery yesterday.

I am currently writing this from the hospital where I had my surgery yesterday. The experience itself was more than a little nerve wracking, though honestly was better than it had been previously. This is largely because I woke up at 4am yesterday, and thus by the time the surgery was getting prepped, I was already naturally groggy which helped. Despite that, I was still getting the shakes before hand just from being nervous. It is a difficult thing to go under, and everything smells and tastes like crap now from the oxygen.

When I woke up, I felt worse than I think any previous surgery. I felt like puking, and I must have been having issues breathing because I was constantly being told to breathe deeply when I started to beep, and that was fairly often. I feel like something different happened on the anesthesia aspect for all that to happen, but not sure what.

The other issue with the surgery was that it started late, really late. I was scheduled to start at 11am, but they didn’t get me on the table till about 2:30 and because of that I wasn’t out until about 5pm. And I was expecting to be done by 1pm. This kind of sucked in a lot of ways because it was 25 hours between meals due to the lateness, and I really haven’t had the chance to recover since I went from recovery to sleep almost directly. I was really kind of looking forward to spending some hospital time with my friend as it is somehow special but we were both exhausted by that time and it really just never happened.

Now, I’m likely going to get out of here in about 3 hours. I expect I will get another dose of medicine before I leave and I’m also going to try to get another meal before I leave too. I have actually been eating a lot better than I expected to. I feel like I’m ordering too much and still hungry after I’m done. So I think I’m still recovering from going so long without food. It is also nice to get a different taste in my system other than that gross oxygen taste from surgery.
