My cat recently got diagnosed with a tumor on his spine. This has got me thinking of the mortality of my favorite cat and the result is the realization that over the last few years I haven’t really been taking pictures of him much, and even worse I don’t think I have many, if any, pictures with him and I together. This has made me even more sad than the fact that I will not be able to enjoy his presence much longer. Now I am faced with the loss of even the memory of him.
You may have noticed the relative quiet over the past few weeks from me and for that I apologize. I like keeping my blog updated, I feel that it keeps me in the habit of writing on a regular basis which I think is helpful. The reason for my absence however has largely been due to the fact that I had my daughter, and I hate to say it but when you aren’t used to having kids, they just wear you right out. It has been a trying couple of weeks with her, with its fair share of ups and downs. But over this time, I feel that we were able to get out and do a couple of interesting summer vacationy type things so I figured I would write about them a little.
As is the usual case with my family and me, I did not get all my presents until New Years. Which IMHO is overall a better gift giving time anyway. Combine two holidays in one, avoid shopping rush and get shopping discounts. What could be better? At any rate, it was a fairly decent year for presents. I think it was strongest from my best friend and mother, and weakest from my sister (which is to be expected really).
I went to the Brookfield Zoo last weekend. We basically decided that we wanted to do something special with my daughter since we had her for a big trip this summer and we wanted her to have some memorable moments to go into the school year with. We were getting kind of tired of our local zoo (which is good but we’ve already gone 3 times this year) and thought that this might be a great change of pace.
If you were wondering where I have been over the last few days, I went on my yearly retreat up to my mother’s cottage. This year was a little different as I went up with my daughter and thus we had to entertain a young one which is difficult in a rustic setting. Still, I think we all had a lot of fun. Lots of swimming occurred, we went to a couple local restaurants, my roommate went kayaking down the river, we had a ton of s’mores around the campfire (not to mention grilled cheese & hotdogs), and pie at a really great pie place.
